Carl Roy Gallagher of Buckingham Florida, formerly of Immokalee Florida. Born June 3, 1928 to Jesse and Ola Gallagher passed away peacefully on January 17, 2021 at the age of 92.
A real-life Cowboy, Carl was raised in Sarasota Florida. During his High School summer breaks he would travel to Immokalee to work for his Grandfather, Robert Roberts, on the Red Cattle company ranch. After graduating in 1946 from Sarasota High School he moved back to Immokalee and began working on the family ranch.
In August of 1950 Carl Gallagher enlisted in the United Stated Marine Corp. He served in the Korean War, where he was wounded in Inchon, Korea, receiving a Purple Heart. Sgt. Gallagher remained with the USMCR for 5 more years.
While participating in an Honor Guard detail in Washington DC he spotted a beautiful flight attendant working for TWA. Her name was Carol Morse and little did she know she would become the love of Carl’s life. Just as he proclaimed to his buddy that first night meeting her, "I'm going to marry that girl" and in 1952 he did.
Moving back to Sarasota with his new wife, Carl began working construction, building their first home, and later becoming a General Contractor. One of his most memorable builds were portions of the Ringling and Barnum and Baily museum opening in 1948. During that time, he and Carol raised his two sons Patrick and Gregory.
Before passing in the early 1960’s Robert Roberts, the patriarch of the family asked Carl to return back to Immokalee and work on the Red Cattle Company Ranch. Moving his young family back to Immokalee, he spent the next 30 + years as a cowboy. Building many sets of cow pens, fencing and buildings still owned by family today.
The Gallagher family were active members of First Baptist Church of Immokalee, and Carl an active member in the Masons. During his time in Immokalee, he started the Little League Program and personally constructed the baseball fields and buildings.
In the late 1980's Carl, his brothers Jesse and Dale, and Brother-in-Law, Bob Chodat began the Flying V Ranch. Carl supervised the cow/calf operation until the early 2000’s.
Leaving behind a lasting legacy, Carl is now reunited with his true love Carol and grandson Joshua Paul. He is survived by his brother John Dale Gallagher and wife Sylvia, sons Patrick and Gregory and the other son “from another mother” Babb “Timmy” Adams and daughters-in-law Rhonda and Wendy, grandchildren Genell Gallagher-Hunt and Christopher with Great grandchildren Tayln and Georgia Gallagher-Hunt.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask if you could please donate to Hope Hospice.
