George was born in Mississippi, as a child moved to Texas with his parents, completed his education, and served in the National Guard. He worked 8 years for Sun Oil Co. in Texas, was transferred by Sun oil to Venezuela where he spent13 years working in the oil business. After leaving Venezuela, George came to Sanibel Island, Florida where he served as a volunteer fire fighter and founded Island Air, an Air-conditioning company. After working in the air-conditioning business, George observed a need for computer software to facilitate the industry. So he taught himself computer programming and together with his brother Glenn, wrote software programs which resulted in a new startup company, called Coastal Computer Corporation.
After running Coastal Computer Corporation for 20 years, George retired in 2000 and together with his wife Sally, started travelling extensively all over the world. Travel was his passion and he spent many hours making travel plans on his computer. George also loved his summer home on Lake Burton, in the North Georgia Mountains and spent many hours in his well-equipped wood working shop. Many family and friends were entertained at the lake house all through the summer.
George bravely battled cancer for years always with a smile, a positive attitude, and concern for others rather than himself.
There will be a Celebration of George’s life at Rene’s (7050 Winkler Rd.) on January 25th at 11:30 AM. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Info 239-481-4341.
