Dad's "Celebration of Life" service will be Monday November 23rd at 10:45am in the Atrium of the Palms. Sorry it took so long to get this out but when we live all over the country it's hard to set a date where we can all come.

Praying for all of you. My memory of your dad was a sweet, gentle, quiet, dad. I huge part of your lives is gone and I pray for peace and comfort for all of you during this time and beyond.

I was blessed to get to meet him and work with him on our family history. Your family is in my prayers.

He was one of the most loving, caring people I've known. He and I worked on family history and later on family DNA. He was so knowledgable and always eager to share. He touched so many people and he will be missed terribly. I am so sorry for your loss. Pat Wilson Ball. (An Allen cousin)

H. Clyde Allen, 87, of Ft. Myers, FL passed away Sunday October 11, 2015. He was born in Richmond, Indiana on July 5, 1928 to Bill and Lucy Allen. He was the oldest of their five children. His brothers Kenny and Henry predeceased him. His sisters, Violet (Hank) Jeans and Lola (Jay) Feaselman still live in the Richmond area. Lucy always said of her five children that she wouldn't take a million dollars for any one of them but wouldn't give a nickel for another either!

Clyde graduated from Boston High School in Boston, Indiana in 1946 at the top of his class (of 7) where he met his future wife, Marie. Clyde was on the baseball and basketball teams and Marie was his cheerleader. Despite having set a Richmond Sectional basketball record that stood for many years by scoring 30 points in one game, his dream was to become a baseball player. 
 
No major league scouts came calling though, so Clyde attended Purdue University and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He and Marie were married the same weekend he graduated and they moved to St. Louis, MO where Clyde began a 33-year career with Union Electric Company. 

Clyde was a proud U.S. army veteran, having served as an instructor state-side during the Korean Conflict.  After his service he and Marie moved back to St. Louis where their children Linda, Karen and Bill were born. He loved his family and coached his kids' sports teams up until Bill began playing hockey at which time he decided the bleachers had a great view of the game. (He taught the kids to ice skate without ever putting skates on - he kept his boots solidly on the ice.)

Clyde and Marie have six grandchildren, Eric (Sarah), Tina, Chase, Cassidy, Brittany and Courtney. They also have three great-grandchildren (Eric): Corbin, Kira and Owen Clyde.

Clyde and Marie retired to Ft. Myers, Florida and never wanted to see snow again. (However, Clyde ended up shoveling snow on a trip to Chicago when Bill got called into work - an ironic turn of events considering how many times Clyde had made Bill shovel the driveway in Missouri.)

Clyde thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years. He played golf regularly and continued his long history of volunteer work. In addition to serving in the church, as he had done virtually his whole adult life, he served on his condominium board and prepared taxes for senior citizens through volunteer organizations.

Clyde will be missed by his many friends and all his family. He always had a smile ready and serving others was in his DNA.

I miss you so much grandpa! Thank you for all the memories I have of you.
