
Jim was the son of Maria Lillian (Alma) Butler and James John Butler, Sr. Jim was born in Tampa, Florida, graduated from Tampa Catholic High School and the University of South Florida. He served in the military (Army Reserves) after college before beginning his career with Walgreens. After his training period in Bradenton, Florida, Jim moved to Ft. Myers. He was a Walgreen’s store manager in the Ft. Myers and Naples area retiring in 2004 due to his MS. Jim received the award for Walgreen’s Store Manager of the Year in 1991.
Jim is survived by his three sisters – Maureen (Albert) Bassett (Goodyear, AZ); Patricia (the late Champ) Lockett (Jacksonville, FL); Karen (William) Parker (Florence, SC); one niece and four nephews and three Lakeland cousins.
Jim was very fortunate to have some very loyal friends – Robert and Lisa Lewis, his neighbors – Bo and Norma (recently deceased) Bierce and Jim’s longtime good friend the late Henry Carylye.
Many, many thanks to Hope Hospice of Ft. Myers. The nurses (especially Bethany) and chaplain – Jerry were so kind. Comfort Keepers cared for Jim the last two years of his life. Jim’s family is so grateful to all those who daily cared for Jim -- especially Rose and Cathy.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 18th at 4 pm. at the Hope Hospice Chapel – 9470 Healthpark Circle in Ft. Myers. (Due to Covid restrictions, only 10 people are allowed in the chapel.) At a later date, Jim’s ashes will be buried alongside his Mom and Dad in the Garden of Memories in Tampa, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Hope Hospice of Fort Myers or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Jim’s name.
