
James is predeceased by his parents, Roy and Anna Scrivner; his wife, Mary Scrivner; his son, Ed Scrivner; and his siblings, Nora Shoemaker, Thomas Scrivner, and Dorothy Baker.
James is survived by his daughter in law, April Scrivner, his grandchildren, Bradley Scrivner, Allison (Rob) Duncan, Mikki (Rob) Smallwood, Vince (Danielle) Province, and Fawn (Kurt) Peterson, his great grandchildren, Kelsey and Ashley Smallwood, Jordan & Cain Peterson, Melia & Matt Province, and Bryce & Takara Duncan; his sister in law, Judy (Jim) Hixon; his nephews, David (Jane) Hixon, Paul (Judy) Shoemaker, Bob (Joan) Baker, Scott (Margaret) Shoemaker; and many other extended family and friends.
James had a passion for plants and flowers and even though he didn't come by his green thumb naturally, he learned everything he could and made his dream of opening his own nursery come true. James and his wife, Mary, opened Scrivner's Garden Center in 1978. They were featured weekly on NBC News on Saturdays for a Q&A during their outdoor segment. James was also a member of the Fort Myers Beautification Council in the 90s and 2000s.
In his spare time, James enjoyed golf and Football Sundays with the family. He loved being out on the water, fishing and taking his grandchildren out of on the boat. James was truly dedicated to his family and will be dearly missed by many.
A visitation for James will be held Monday, June 19, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. A funeral service will occur Monday, June 19, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A graveside service will occur Monday, June 19, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
