"Jack" Bock passed away in the early hours of Saturday, September 10th 2016 at the age of 94. He moved to Ft. Myers from Sebring Florida in 2014. Jack was born on July 26, 1922 in Orange, New Jersey to Otto and Gertrude Bock. He had one sister, Mary. He attended Rutgers University, and served the country that he loved during World War II. Jack was a gunner’s mate first class in the United States Coast Guard. He served in the South Pacific and as a sub chaser off the coast of Florida. Jack spent his career in the CIA until his retirement in 1973. Jack married his one true love, Elizabeth "Betty" Oldham on September 21st, 1946. Together they raised six children, John, Richard, Wayne, Laurie, Kit and Robert. Jack and Betty were also blessed with 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The week before his passing, Jack had a long conversation with one of his family members. Normally conversations revolved around family relationships, school, work, sports, hobbies and as always, plenty of jokes. He was interested in what his family was doing, and wanted most of all for them to be happy. This time, Jack spoke about his life experiences. He talked about his adventures, places he lived, and all that life had given him. Jack expressed that some of the most successful people he knew were his family members, not in terms of financial gains but because they displayed great love, and spread their love to those around them. He attributed this great success to the love of his life, Betty. With loving eyes and the kindest heart, she was by his side until his last day. They were the perfect combination. Jack concluded the conversation by saying that his life was fulfilled and he was "ready"
Jack will be laid to rest on Wednesday, September 14th at Sarasota National Cemetery at 12:30pm with military honors following a mass at Church of the Resurrection of our Lord in Ft. Myers, FL.
May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields.
Arrangements under the direction of HODGES-KISER FUNERAL HOME, Fort Myers, FL.
