I was born on August 31, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York. My baptism took place in the Parkville Congregational Church. My family lived there until the crash in 1929. I have a brother 2 years younger than me.
We moved to Mineola, Long Island, New York. My father found work as a milkman. Started School in Junior High then went to Mineola High School. Graduated in 1941 and went to Mrs. Skimmer Secretarial School. Didn’t care much for the short hand so ended up going to work in New York City for Prudential of Great Britain a reinsurance company. Met my husband Frederick in 1947 and found work in The Williston Park Bank as a bookkeeper. We married on April 9, 1949 and found a house in East Meadow, Long Island, N.Y. Our son Kenneth was born January 14, 1951; Raymond was born April 1, 1953 and Robert August 24, 1955. We lived in East Meadow for 29 years. My husband’s father and mother, and my mother had passed away in those years.
Our sons had all gone to school in East Meadow; Ken got a job in Sears as a mechanic. Ray went to Denver, Colorado to study body shop. Bob ended up in Vermont. He started as a dishwasher but thru the years worked his way up to being a waiter. He also managed a restaurant for a while. He however preferred being a waiter.
In 1978, Fred passed away. We were only here six months when I lost him. My father Ed Kraft and step mother Marion Lived here since 1962 that is how we settled in Lehigh Acres.
I have been in the church choir till last year. I was bookkeeper for the Women Fellowship twice. Helped in the Rummage Sales setting the prices. I have served on the Music Committee, Memorial Committee and the Search Committee. One time even helped in the kitchen when cleaning up.
I regret the Golden years seem to mean everything is done at a slower pace.
I am so thankful for the many friends in our church.
It is so good to have God send us Reverend Alen and the people who are keeping our church together.
May He continue to watch over us so we make the decisions that are pleasing to God. May God be with each one of you.
