I am more sad than words can say at Leon's passing. Ours is a very unique friendship as he and I never met; we came to know each other through a mutual friend, Bob Stone. Leon, Bob and I worked at the same place here in Massachusetts, Bob and Leon worked together and Bob and I did but Leon had already moved down to Florida by the time I got there. Our email and Facebook exchanges were nice, fun. But when my sister suffered a terrible breakdown following a catastrophic life event, Leon responded by immediately sending her the most beautiful beaded necklaces and bracelets. Such altruistic kindness helped my sister so much. Leon was THE most generous man I've ever known. Recently, when he learned my laptop had died, he again, without hesitation, sent me a brand new laptop! He explained it was a mitzvah and as such, he could accept no thanks and I couldn't tell anyone about it or the blessing would be lost. I loved this man; he was funny, wise, kind. His love of cats helped me through my trials when I suddenly found myself the caregiver of a kitten my sister took in, Maggie, when she (my sister) had to go into the hospital. (Interesting aside: Leon thought the name Maggie was "too common a name for such a beautiful girl". He dubbed her The Lady Marguerite Racicot of The Lowell Racicots. Hilarious!) I am missing Leon's daily messages already and will miss him so much. I have known very few souls of his caliber. Many special mitzvahs be yours, my dear, dear Friend.
