On February 16, 2025, two months shy of her 99th birthday, Madelyn Helen Greenburg went home to be with her Lord. Maddie was born April 19, 1926, in Lansing, Michigan, to Foster and Emma (Redinger) White. She lost her mother when she was 10 years old and grew up during the great Depression. Both of these occasions shaped the way she lived her whole life.
Maddie married her high school sweetheart, Richard (Dick) Greenburg on February 1, 1946, and they were married 59 years prior to his death. They were residents of Lake Fairways Country Club in North Fort Myers FL since 1989. Her favorite pastime was golf! She played at least three times a week for many years, and still golfed into her early 90’s. She made many good friends through her golf at Lake Fairways. She also loved jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, playing Scrabble with her daughter, Words with Friends with her grandchildren and dominoes with her Lake Fairways friends. She was loved and well taken care of by her cul-de-sac neighbors.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Doug Squires of Gaylord, Michigan, and a son, William Greenburg of Lansing, Michigan. There are six grandchildren, Richard Squires, Christopher Squires, Amanda (Richard) Murray, Matthew (Jennifer) Squires, Ben (Jennifer) Greenburg, and Tisha (John) Squier, and 9 great-grandchildren: Kiora and Tom, Murray; Brody, Mackenzie, Isabelle and Madison Squires; Madelyn and Aiden Greenburg; and Emma Squire. She had five very special nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews, and a few very special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her son David, her daughter-in-law Ivy, her sister and brother-in-law Arlene and Robert (Frenchy) Fillion, her nephew James, and many, many dear friends.
“Don’t be sad because I died … be happy because I lived. I had a wonderful life.” (John Stamos, note to John from his mother he found after she died.)
