Mary Ann Maxwell, age 71, died on June 13, 2019 at her home in Ft. Myers, FL from lung cancer. Born August 15, 1947, to Carl and Martha Turner in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Mary Ann will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, James Thomas Maxwell, her two children Heather Maxwell and Lesley Mann (Jason), and two grandchildren, Cooper and Chloe Mann. She is predeceased by first born son, James Turner Maxwell (Jay), and parents Carl D. Turner and Martha A. Turner. She attended Tusculum University in Tennessee, where she achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Education and ultimately spent her career in Elementary and Middle School classrooms. Known by her students as Mama Maxwell, her impact on her school communities was vast and ongoing. After her retirement, she remained active by volunteering in her community with GLADkids in Ft. Myers Florida and Hope Hospice. She and her husband Jim (Big Bear) enjoyed boating in the beautiful Southwest Florida waters. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends for being a sheer force of nature, full of kindness, generosity, and good humor. There will be no funeral or visitation. Mary Ann will be interred at the National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL. Mary Ann requested donations be given to Hope Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
