

Matt was born on February 8, 1935 to Dennis and Alice McKiernan. He was preceded in death by his parents and older sisters, Mary and Helen. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years Josephine (Jo) and his five children: Deryl, Tim (Lori), Joanne (Lois), Denis (Annette), and Matthew (Sherrey). He was blessed with seven grandchildren: Meghan, Matthew, Michael, Christopher, Kenny, Rowan, and Matthew, as well as, eight great grandchildren: Liam, Hunter, Felicity, Jack, Norah, Evelyn, Fredrick, and MacKensie. He is survived by his brother, Bill and sisters: Kay, Nan and Pat.
Upon graduating from high school, Matt enlisted in the US Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was employed by Airborne Instruments Laboratory until his retirement in 1990. Along with his wife Jo, he flipped many houses long before flipping became common! He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In retirement, Matt enjoyed playing golf with friends and family at Island’s End Golf Course. He also was a volunteer with Hospice offering companionship and comfort to those who were homebound. When he relocated to Lehigh Acres, he continued his love of golf at Westminster Golf Club.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on November 8th at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Lehigh Acres. In acknowledging Matt’s love of golf, we would ask those attending the Mass to wear their favorite golf shirt! A private interment will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery.
