

His academic journey began in Golden Grove, where he attended Primary School. He later went on to Stokes Hall Secondary School and then learned sugar boiling at the Golden Grove Sugar Factory.
He departed Jamaica’s lovely shores for London, England in July of 1957, where he furthered his studies in sugar confectionary boiling. He received his degree from Elephant and Castel Borough Polytechnic.
Responding to the call of the military in 1958, he joined the Royal Air Force as a General Mechanic. He served for twelve years in various parts of the world. Upon completing his tour of duty, he left as a Senior Aircraftsman. The last five years in service found him to be an avid sportsman. He became the boxing champion for the Royal Air Force three years in a row and was thought to be a young “Cassius Clay”.
He traveled to various countries, returned to England and eventually met and married Barry Kline Greaves. From this union came two of his children, Joel and Yvette.
Never one to stop learning, he attended Ipswich Civic College and graduated with honors in Structural Engineering and Teaching.
In 1970, feeling the desire to return to his roots to help his fellow countrymen, he once again set his sights on Jamaica. There he taught at St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) where he was affectionately known as “Teach”. He became the head of the Civic Service Program, which created the Exchange Student Program, where students were expected to work before leaving High School and received a General Certificate of Learning (GCL)-both of which were the first of its kind in Jamaica.
In 1980 the urge to travel came again. This time it led him to the world’s largest cultural melting pot, The United States of America. Here he pursued various business ventures. He eventually settled and started his own business in Janitorial Services.
He relocated to Florida in 1992. Once there he became an active member in his church and various community organizations. He also became a foster parent and service provider for persons with special needs.
Owen is survived by his children; Ricky, Deborah, Joel, Yvette, Floyd and Diamond; grandsons-Spencer, Eythan, Justin,Tyriquee and Asante; sisters-Madge Easley, Fay (Louis Maylor), Althea (Anthony Clemens), nieces, nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.
