Shirley Ann Giribaldi

April 17, 1947 – December 11, 2021

Shirley Ann (Chappell) Giribaldi, age 74 of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Newark, Delaware, passed peacefully unto the Lord on Saturday, December 11, 2021.

Born in Aberdeen, Washington, the daughter of Rose (Fritz) and Carl Chappelle, at an early age Shirley moved to Newark, Delaware with her parents where she grew up surrounded by a loving extended family. Shirl had loving cousin bonds with Michael, Joey, Mary Dene, Arthur, Louis, Ann and Bunny. In her sophomore year of high school, Shirl met Linda (Calloway) Pini, establishing a lifelong sisterhood.

While in high school Shirl attended modeling school and became involved in pageantry. In 1965, Shirl was crowned Miss Delaware. The theme of the pageant that year was “Love at First Sight”. This theme rang true again years later, when on a Bermuda cruise she met the love of her life, Leonardo Giribaldi. Shirl and Leonardo married on February 26, 1979. Shirley worked at several banks over the years, spending the better part of her career at Wilmington Trust, where she retired in 2009. Along with her own professional success, Shirl spent years as Leonardo’s business partner of “La Buona Cucina” and “No Name” Pizza both of Booths Corner Farmer’s Market, Boothwyn PA.

Shirl and Leonardo filled their lives with family, friends, food, and travel. With traveling the world, visiting many exotic places, and returning to Leonardo’s “home” of Finale Liguria, Italy brought them the greatest joy and fondest memories. Whether traveling together, sitting around the table playing Mah-Jongg, or sipping fine wine and sharing stories, Shirl showered those closest to her with love and friendship. While too many to name, those in Delaware, Fort Myers, and afar, will carry fond memories of the joy and laughter they all shared.

Shirl is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Leonardo Giribaldi, her son Alessandro and wife Deanna, daughter-in-law, Sonia Giribaldi and her four grandchildren Valentina, Nicholas, Liliana, and Anthony. Shirl was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Rose Chappelle, and son Massimo Giribaldi.

A Catholic Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 14th at 10:00 a.m at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 13060 Palomino Lane, Fort Myers, Florida 33912.
