Born on February 20, 1960, in Kokomo, Indiana, Steve lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering devotion to his family, and a tireless work ethic that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
A man of remarkable dedication and skill, Steve built an abundant career as an award-winning commercial and residential pool contractor. For many decades, he brought vision and craftsmanship to countless projects across the region. In recent years, his expertise played a vital role in rebuilding and redeveloping commercial pools devastated by Hurricane Ian—work that not only restored structures but also helped communities heal.
Steve’s professional accomplishments were matched only by his steadfast commitment to his loved ones. He was the spiritual leader and rock of his household—a devoted husband to Joanne; a loving father to Savanna (Caleb) and Makenzie (Dan); and a proud grandfather to Landon, Georgia, Makayla, Delaney, and Remi. He also left behind a brother, Jim Baker (Christine) and a sister, Rita Barton. His presence was a constant source of strength and guidance for those closest to him.
Family was at the heart of everything Steve did. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren and found joy in simple moments shared with those he loved most. Whether golfing during earlier years, casting a line while fishing, or enjoying a game of cards with friends or family, Steve embraced life fully and gratefully.
His faith was the cornerstone of his identity. With God first and family second in his life, Steve lived as a true servant of the Lord. His license plate read “LV JESUS,” a daily testament to the love he carried for Christ. He never missed an opportunity to share the Word of God and spread the Good News—his life itself serving as a powerful witness to his beliefs.
Steve was one of four siblings and remained a devoted brother and son throughout his life. He now joins in eternal rest his beloved parents Nell Baker and James “Al” Baker, as well as his brother Christopher Baker.
In honoring Steve’s legacy of compassion and service, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, charitable donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital—a cause close to Steve’s heart.
May Stephen Kent “Steve” Baker’s memory be a blessing to all who knew him. His faith-filled life continues to inspire those he leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 29, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM at Hodges-Kiser Funeral Home 9231 Cypress Lake Drive. Gathering of friends and family 1:00pm-3:00pm Service at 3:00pm.
