Bertha was born on July 24, 1927 in Stamford, Texas and grew up on the farm as a part of the very special Ulmer family. She took the Ulmer spirit of serving and sacrificial love to start her own family in 1944, marrying Marvin Hughes and having her four sons. Settling in Florida after a life as a military wife, she enjoyed a life of cooking, gardening, and fishing. After the passing of Marvin, in 1989 she was blessed to meet and marry Norman Shepard in 1990. They enjoyed many road travels to Texas and the Poconos. After Norman’s passing, she continued her yearly travels to Texas for the annual Ulmer Family Reunion as a highlight of her life. After Norman passed in 2003, she was blessed again by her son David coming to live with her in Florida and taking care of her for her final 16 years. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but all who knew her are treasuring wonderful memories of her love and life.
The Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Aycock Funeral Home 6026 N. US Highway 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946 with a Viewing at 10:00am and Service at 11:00am.
