1921 to Clyde and Ruth Gayle, she was 99 years old at the time of her death.
A native of Shreveport, LA, Molly attended Centenary College during World War II and worked
at the Army-Air Corps Base Barksdale Field where she met her future husband, Don, from New
York. They married in 1944 and moved to New York City after the war, soon settling on Long
Island – in Malverne, and then Garden City – where they lived until retiring to Sag Harbor, NY,
and then Florida.
Though living for years in the North, Molly never lost her warm southern charm, and her sweet
southern drawl often emerged in phone conversations with her parents and sisters in Louisiana
– Clyde, Ruth, Julia and Dorothy. Molly’s southern hospitality was greatly appreciated by friends
and family. Throughout her life, she was an avid golfer and tennis player and in retirement, she
enjoyed continuing to play tennis and golf for many years.
Molly is predeceased by her husband, Donald Francis Connors, to whom she was married for
over 60 years. She is survived by her children – Don Connors of Traverse City, MI, Jerry Connors
of Fredericksburg, VA, Candace Connors Vorhaus of Austin, TX, and Chris Connors of Malverne,
NY – and by 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
