

Raymond "Ray" John Mezo, Sr., age 84, of Ft. Pierce, FL, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2021, surrounded by family.
Ray was born January 19th, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a first generation Hungarian-American, and a graduate of Benedictine High School, Class of 1954, in Cleveland, Ohio. After high school graduation, he served for four years in the United States Marine Corps. During his four years of military service, he served as an Honor Guard in Naples, Italy. He was a proud veteran, and also attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Ray was preceded in death by his father John Mezo, mother Susanna Dancs Mezo, and sister Margaret Mezo Gyori, Nephews Joseph Toth, and Leslie Andrew Gyori.
He is survived by his wife Sarah Mezo, his son Raymond Mezo, Jr. (Sherri), daughters Jacki Ottaviani (David) and Julie Breen (Jack), stepsons Jon Anderson and Eric Anderson, grandchildren Kerianne, Marjorie, Samantha, Anthony, Meredith, Jake, Arielle and Lauren, great-grandchildren Miles and James, and niece, Zsuzsanna Ilona Gyori.
Ray was a retired carpenter by trade. He worked on the Alaskan pipeline in the 1970's, Turkey Point for FPL in the 1980's, and was the Secretary-Treasurer for the local Carpenter's Union in Homestead, FL, in the 1990's. Ray enjoyed woodworking and photography. He made many beautiful wood products for his family through the years, and was the family photographer evidenced by the thousands of pictures taken through the decades. He also enjoyed all types of good food, and prided himself on being a good cook. Ray was a past Commander and lifetime Member of the American Legion.
Ray and his wife Sarah were married for 38 years. They enjoyed traveling in their camper to many places around the United States. They were also past members of the Ft. Pierce Orchid Society.
Ray was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Ft. Pierce. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday November 6th, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 407 S. 33rd St., Fort Pierce FL 34947. Military Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to St. Anastasia Catholic Church - Capital Building Fund, Treasure Coast Hospice, or Wounded Warriors.
