

Alastair William Brennan was born on November 5, 1935 to James and Mary (Yates) Brennan in Eskdale District, Saskatchewan. He attended Eskdale School for Grades 1-8 and completed Grade 9 by correspondence. In 1953 he moved to Ituna to live with his sister Lillian and her husband Donald Mason to attend high school. During summers he worked for Mason Brother’s Construction, learning road building and land clearing. From 1955 to 1960 he worked in: Alberta’s coal mines, a construction company building the #1 highway through Banff, Alberta and a zinc mine in Flin Flon, Manitoba. He returned to Ituna, Saskatchewan in 1960 and rejoined Mason Brother’s and in 1965 he co-founded Potash Services Construction along with two partners.
On August 31, 1963 Alastair married Doreen Bruce from Garnet District. They lived in Kelliher until 1967, then moved to Colonsay while working at the Central Canada Potash Mine. After a short stint in Esterhazy they returned to Ituna in 1969. In 1991, after Potash Services Construction was sold, Alastair worked on a farm for a couple of years, then joined the Ituna Co-op in 1993 where he stayed for 11 years. He retired in 2004, though he was occasionally called back to help. Alastair and Doreen raised a family of four children, David, Leann, Carole and Allan.
Alastair was predeceased by his loving wife Doreen in 2024; his parents James and Mary Brennan; his mother and father-in-law George and Esther Bruce; son in law Wayne Hubick; siblings: Lillian, Richard, Phyllis, Ruth, Keith and Danny and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his loving children: David (Marcie), Leann (Jayson), Carole (Shannon) and Allan; seven grandchildren: Kimberly (Brendan), Ryan (Miranda), Kyle (Ashley) Jade (Avery), Haley (Travis), Tyler (Carmen) and Logan (Hailey); nine great-grandchildren: Aden, Sylas, Roman, Callum, Renley, Cecilia, Ivy, Presley and Wesley; his brother Dale (Joyce); sister-in-law Audrey; brothers-in-law Gordon (Marcia) and Gerald (Bev) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alastair loved spending time with family and friends and was always ready to lend a hand. He enjoyed coffee at the local café, biking with his grandchildren and tending to his large garden. A devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan, he could often be found watching games, reading the paper or relaxing in his yard. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service for Alastair will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrew's United Church, Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, officiated by Rev. Jo Mader. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
