Bonnie was raised on the family farm near Edgeley, Saskatchewan with her parents, Dave and Mary Williams and her siblings Betty, Jim and Esther. She loved the farm and would visit it many times over the years.
She attended school in Edgeley and then Fort Qu’Appelle until receiving a teacher’s degree from universities in Saskatoon and Regina. Bonnie worked in the Lebret school and briefly in Calgary, for Alberta Government Telephones. She returned to the valley and was offered a job at Parkland Community College, where she taught adult education for many years. When she retired, she would often be approached by former students, who always gave her a big hug and told her how much she meant to them.
Everyone knew that if they needed someone to volunteer for a project, all they had to do was ask Bonnie. Even when she was sick with cancer and the beginnings of dementia, she still looked after the flowers in front of the Town Office. Bonnie supported children through the Christian Children’s Fund for over 33 years. She was a long-time Legion member and received a certificate of merit in recognition of her service with the Fort Qu’Appelle Legion.
Bonnie was an excellent curler and loved golfing with the Monday morning ladies at Echo Ridge and then meeting on the deck for coffee. She enjoyed raking sand traps on the weekends that Wayne worked. Bonnie was a wonderful cook and baker. Her family had many great meals together on special accessions.
Bonnie loved her husband Wayne and son Danny and his wife Tara, but she had a special place in her heart for her grandson Hunter. Her sister Esther was so kind to her and visited her almost daily at Echo Lodge. She is also survived by her sisters Betty Buote and Esther (Dwight) Greig and brother Jim (Nadine) Williams.
She is predeceased by her parents Dave and Mary Williams and brother-in-law Leonard Buote.
Bonnie will be missed by everyone that knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff of Echo Lodge for the care and compassion they provided to both Bonnie and Hannah during their time at Echo Lodge.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to Echo Lodge Auxiliary, Box 1790, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK S0G 1S0.
