Dorothy Louise Baber (Meikle)

Dorothy was born on July 28, 1939, in Balcarres, Saskatchewan to Ruby (Stephens) and Dave Meikle. Her younger sister Barbara joined the family in 1945. She grew up in Balcarres and spent many of her younger years at her grandparents and uncles’ farm north of town where her love of horses and all animals began. Many hours were spent on the farm with her best friend Carole and her dog Tip. She loved her horses, farm cats, dogs and in later years her “grand puppies”.

When Dorothy graduated from High School in Balcarres in 1957 she went onto the University of Saskatchewan where she began her studies in Pharmacy, later switching to teaching. Dorothy married Ervin Baber of Lemberg in 1961 in Balcarres. Ervin and Dorothy spent their early years of their marriage in Regina where Ervin worked as a Pharmacist and Dorothy taught. In 1964 they moved back to Balcarres and opened Baber’s Pharmacy, which was later owned and operated by their son Scott.

Dorothy and Ervin spent many good times over the years golfing and traveling. They spent many winters in Hemet, California until recent years. They both loved to golf at Katepwa and host happy hours at their seasonal campsite there.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Dave and Ruby Meikle; her sister Barbara; her in-laws John and Mary Baber; sister-in-law Elsie Pekrul; brothers-in-law Ernie Baber and Jack Pekrul and nieces Debbie Dodd and Sheree Baber.

Dorothy is survived by her husband Ervin; son Scott (Carla) Baber and their sons: Travis, Matthew (Rachel) and Connor (Brooklyn); daughter Karla Esplin (Kent) and their daughters Cherrise (Nicholas) and Carissa (Ryley); sister-in-law Dorothea Baber; brother-in-law Clifford Krieger; niece Laura (Terry) Derkach; nephew Stephen Krieger; nephews Don (Michelle) Baber and Doug (Joette) Baber; niece Laurie (Terry) Eisler; nephew Terry (Darlene) Pekrul and niece Cindy Pekrul.

A funeral service will be held in the Balcarres Lions Hall, Balcarres, Saskatchewan on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Don Jewitt. Lunch will be served following the service. A private family interment will be held.
