John McKay

John was predeceased by his parents Jack and Hilda, as well as his daughter Christine. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hilary McKay; children Andrew (Alison) and Cathy (Mike) and his grandchildren Iain (Josie) and Emma.

Education was very important to John. He began his teaching career in the late 1950's, teaching in France and Liverpool. He then relocated the family to Porcupine Plain, SK in 1967 to continue teaching. In 1976 they moved to Balcarres, SK, where he became principal of the Balcarres School.

After retiring from teaching, John spent many years driving a school bus. He enjoyed long walks, reading, playing badminton and especially sharing time with his family.

John was a longstanding member of St. Andrew’s United Church and sang with the Fireside Singers in Balcarres.

A celebration of life will be held in the Balcarres Golden Age Centre, on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
