Brian McIlwain, born on May 3rd, 1954, in Peterborough, Ontario, peacefully departed this world surrounded by his loving family on January 14th, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta. He was the cherished and only child of Ed and Emily McIlwain.
On July 12th, 1975, Brian married the love of his life, Karen McIlwain (Nee: Perks), with whom he shared a bond that stood the test of time. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Brian was an exceptional father to his two children, Christina (Raymond de Blois) and Matthew (Sara Hassani), instilling in them the values of kindness, resilience, and the importance of family.
Brian's gentle and kind spirit endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His tremendous sense of humor brightened the lives of those around him, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere wherever he went. A man of wisdom and curiosity, Brian had a profound love for books and learning, fostering a lifelong passion for knowledge.
Sports, especially hockey, held a special place in Brian's heart, and he dedicated much of his life to the game, both as a player and a coach. His involvement in the world of hockey allowed him to create lasting connections and share his passion with others.
Family was paramount to Brian, evident in his favorite pastime—genealogy. He tirelessly researched and documented his family's history, creating a legacy that will be cherished by generations to come. His commitment to preserving the family's heritage spoke volumes about his love for roots and the bonds that connect us all.
Among Brian's closest companions was his beloved dog, Diego, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. Their connection was a testament to the unconditional love and companionship that Brian brought into the lives of those around him.
