It is with deep sorrow and much love that we, the family, mourn the peaceful passing of Donna on September 10th, 2025, at the Rivercrest Hospice Care Center in Fort Saskatchewan at the age of 89 years.
Donna will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Leanne (Greg) Parent; her grandson, Dalton Parent (Tamara); and her granddaughter, Sydney Parent; as well as her sister-in-law, Donna May Byers; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friends; and her daughter-in-law, Gail.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert “Bob” Baldwin; her son, Alan Baldwin; her brothers, Neil (Margaret) Byers, Murray Byers; her sisters, Willene (Dennie) Kerr and Wilma Gilmer; her brother-in-law, Murray Gilmer; as well as her parents, Newton and Kathleen Byers.
Donna was born April 15th, 1936, in Oxbow, Saskatchewan. She was raised on the family farm by Frobisher, where she attended school through grade 12. Donna married Bob Baldwin in July of 1957. Together they lived in several places, starting in Carievale and later moving to Weyburn, Estevan, Vancouver, and Onoway, before settling in Fort Saskatchewan.
Their lives together always included their love of music! Everywhere they lived or visited, music was involved. Their band, “Blue Country,” was formed with friends and they played for many different occasions over the years. Donna loved playing the piano and accompanied Bob and many others at fiddle contests and jamborees. Her most special moments were playing alongside her grandson Dalton and listening to her granddaughter Sydney play the piano.
No matter where Donna lived she was always very active in her community and the United Church. She contributed greatly to Onoway where they resided for 30 years. Here, she was very involved with the United Church, the Bissel Thrift Shop, the Onoway Community Hall, and the Onoway Golden Club, amongst numerous other organizations.
Donna also had a talent and passion for sewing and quilting. Her quilted potholders were shared with many.
One of Donna’s greatest joys in life was her love of family and friends. Her pride and love for her grandchildren was never left unsaid, whether it was their musical talents or their school accomplishments. Donna’s love for her nieces and nephews and their love for her was immeasurable.
Anyone who has spent time with Donna has probably heard two of her favourite quotes: “He who has a thousand friends has not a friend to spare” and “Be good to yourself and to those around you.” These are words she lived by her entire life.
The family would like to thank all the staff at both the Fort Saskatchewan Hospital and the Rivercrest Hospice Care Center for the Excellent care Donna received!
