It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful mom, Dorothy May Fletcher, on October 29, 2026, at 3:24 p.m. Mountain Time, in Lamont, Alberta, at the age of 94 years.
Dorothy was born on October 18, 1932, in Lauvina, New Brunswick, to her loving parents, Marion Isabella (Boone) and Lloyd Shanks.
Dorothy lived a long and wonderful life, filled with family, love, laughter, and a spirit that never stopped wanting to experience all that life had to offer.
She was a devoted mother who raised nine children and lovingly helped raise two of her grandchildren. Family was the centre of her world, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved.
Dorothy had an amazing appetite for life. She loved trying new things, experiencing new adventures, and making the most of every opportunity. She believed in living life to its fullest, and her curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace new experiences were part of what made her so special.
Her greatest joy was her family. Whether it was gathering together, sharing stories, laughing, or simply enjoying one another's company, those moments meant everything to her. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish the memories, love, and special moments they shared with her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children,
Gail Barrett (George), Michael (Natalie), Timothy (Vicky), Robin (Brenda), David (Tara), Mandy (Kevin), and Sean (Jordan).
She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other family members who will miss her dearly.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Pearson Fletcher; her cherished children, Douglas Fletcher, Robert Fletcher, Mark Fletcher, and Lisa Fletcher; her beloved grandson, Nicholas Fletcher; and her parents, Marion Isabella (Boone) and Lloyd Shanks.
At 94 years of age, Dorothy leaves behind a legacy that goes far beyond the years she lived. It lives on in the generations of family she helped create, the memories she made, the love she shared, and the lives she touched.
Although our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the time we had with her. We will hold close the stories, the laughter, the family gatherings, and all the little moments that now mean so much.
Mom, thank you for giving us a lifetime of memories. Thank you for teaching us to embrace life, try new things, and treasure the people we love.
You may be gone from our sight, but you will never be gone from our hearts.
Rest peacefully, Mom. Your journey here is complete, but your love will live on through all of us.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever our Mom. ❤️
A funeral service will be held at a later date at York Funeral Home in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
