It is with profound sadness and hearts full of love that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, auntie, and sister, Edith Adeline Kowall of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, on October 13, 2026, at 8:21 p.m., at the age of 89 years.
Surrounded by the family she loved so dearly, Edith left this world just as she lived in it, wrapped in love.
To know Edith was to know unconditional love. She was the kind of woman who would give you the shirt off her back, the last piece of food on her plate, and anything else you could possibly need, without ever expecting anything in return. Her family was her greatest joy, her proudest accomplishment, and the very centre of her world. There was simply nothing she wouldn’t do for the people she loved.
A true Grandma at heart, Edith had a special way of showing her love, and more often than not, it came from her kitchen. Food was her love language, and nobody ever left her home hungry. Whether you needed a warm meal, a little comfort, or simply a reminder that someone cared, Edith always seemed to know exactly what you needed. Her table was a place where bellies were filled, stories were shared, and memories were made. It was never just about the food. It was about the love she poured into every little thing she did.
Edith spent most of her life in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, a community that held a special place in her heart. She loved her time with Royal Purple, cherished the tea house in Hudson Bay, and found so much happiness in the simple beauty of flowers and her garden. She had a gift for nurturing things, whether it was a garden full of blooms or the generations of family who grew under her love and care.
But above all else, Edith was a mother and grandmother in every beautiful sense of the word. She was loving, selfless, generous, strong, and endlessly devoted. She celebrated her family’s happiness, carried their worries as though they were her own, and offered the kind of comfort that only a mother’s or grandmother’s love can provide. She made the people around her feel safe, wanted, and deeply loved.
Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter Kowall; her parents Sophie and Nick, her brothers, John, Frank, and Joe; and her sister, Alice.
She leaves behind a family who will forever treasure the privilege of being loved by her: her daughters, Iris (Mervin) and Karen (Cam); her son, Terry (Gay); her grandchildren, Jaime (Geoff), Ashley, Jordan (Trisha), Christine and Michael; her great-grandchildren, Darien (Colton) and Korbin; and her great-great-grandchildren, Adellia and Blakely.
She will also be lovingly remembered by her Sister-in-law Rita, brother Paul, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and all those whose lives were touched by her kindness.
Five generations of family, connected by one extraordinary woman whose love, strength, and kindness will continue to live on through each of them.
Although our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that Edith’s final moments were peaceful and that she was surrounded by the people who meant everything to her.
There was also a small but beautiful moment that brought comfort to her family on the day she passed. Edith’s beloved husband, Peter, had always loved blue jays. On October 13th, a blue jay spent the day just outside her window, an unexpected presence that felt especially meaningful. We cannot help but smile at the thought that perhaps, in his own special way, Peter was there waiting for her, ready to welcome her home. It is a memory her family will hold close, a gentle reminder that some bonds of love are never truly broken.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate care team at Rivercrest Care Centre in Fort Saskatchewan for the kindness, dignity, and care they provided Edith. Your support and tenderness during her time with you will always be remembered and appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Edith’s memory to the Rivercrest Care Centre in the hope that other families can benefit from their care.
Grandma, thank you for every meal made with love, every hug, every laugh, every lesson, and every moment you gave us. Thank you for always putting your family first, for loving us without limits, and for giving us a lifetime of memories to hold close.
We will miss your voice, your warmth, your gentle presence, and the comfort of simply knowing you were there. The world feels a little less bright without you in it, but the love you gave us will never fade.
You were truly one of a kind. We were so very lucky to be yours.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts. ❤️
