Eleanor was born on June 16, 1940, to Ethel and Freeman Hill on the family farm near Tofield, Alberta. She grew up surrounded by the beauty of the countryside in Violet Grove, alongside her siblings, Don and Doreen. From a young age, Eleanor developed a deep appreciation for the land, the horses, and the flowers that bloomed around her family’s farm - a love that stayed with her throughout her life.
After moving to Edmonton at 18 to begin her career, she met the love of her life, Rod Movold. They married on June 7, 1960, and settled in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, where they raised their four children. Eleanor took great pride in her family, home, and garden.
She was a passionate sports enthusiast. Whether it was skiing, curling, or playing golf, Eleanor loved being active. She was especially devoted to her favorite teams, the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Blue Jays, and could often be found cheering them on with enthusiasm. She also enjoyed many hours volunteering with her friends at the Kinettes Club in Fort Saskatchewan.
Eleanor was a courageous cancer fighter, having triumphed over the disease for an incredible 39 years. Her strength, resilience, and positive outlook on life were an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the love she shared, the memories she created, and the legacy of family and joy she leaves behind.
Eleanor is survived by her devoted husband, Rod Movold; her children, Grant (Shelley), Dave (Kim) from Fort Saskatchewan, and Wade (Karen) in Calgary; and her nine cherished grandchildren (Eric, Curtis, Ryan, Kellie, Jena, Brett, Sydney, Makenna, and Taylor), whom she taught strength, manners, and etiquette. She will also be deeply missed by her son-in-law, Mike Hogan of Courtney, BC. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings as well as her beloved daughter, Tracie Hogan, whose memory she carried close to her heart every day.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held to honour her memory at First Memorial Funeral Services, Riverview Chapel, (11090 86 Avenue, Fort Saskatchewan) on April 11th at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Eleanor’s name to Canadian Cancer Society.
