Joan Sumka

Joan was predeceased by her loving husband, Steve (of 60 years); parents, Henrietta (Nee: Egan) and Fred Cooper; brothers, Eugene and Hollins Cooper; and sister, Audrey Wray.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Ann Louise (Roger) Scott; sons, Greg (Rita) and Marshall Sumka. She is also survived by grandsons, Ian Scott (Erica Tiong), Graeme Scott, Michael (Janice) Sumka, and Mark Sumka (Angela Ratzburg); as well as great grandchildren, Avery Tiong-Scott and Evan Sumka.

Joan was born in Valleyfield Quebec and moved with her husband Steve to Fort Saskatchewan in 1955. A wonderful homemaker, she will be remembered fondly as a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Many thanks to all the people who have kindly supported Joan and helped her maintain independence in her own home until her passing. A special thank you to Judy and Ken Somers.

Particular thanks of late to the Home Care team, doctors, and nursing staff at Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital.

A small family gathering will take place to mark her passing and honour her life.
