April 6, 1947 – November 29, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of George Andrews on November 29th. Born in Grourard, Alberta he spent his teenage years in Daysland with the Zimmer Family and then lived in Winnipeg for a while before moving back to Alberta in the mid 70’s.
George will always be remembered by everyone as a character, always quick with a joke and a story. He was a man of strong opinions and he stood up for what he believed in. All those he worked with could count on George to make them laugh or at least put a smile on their face.
Everyone knew of George’s love for fishing, hunting and hockey. He spent many years hunting in the mountains with his closest friends and as he got older he cared more for the beauty of nature and the time with his friends, than using his tags. Anyone who fished with him knew that a day of fishing included overtime – it was dusk til dawn!
George loved horses and especially the Pony Chuckwagon and Chariot races – where he raced several teams over the years. George spent many years as a trainer with the Junior A Fort Sask. Traders hockey team, where he knew quite a few NHL players before they were stars. He loved all sports but hockey was by far his favourite – a game he could share with his sons and grandsons. He spent many hours at rinks with his sons, never in the stands, always at ice level close to the home team gate. And as of late with his grandsons, Austin and Chasen – always giving them tips on how to improve their game.
George is survived by his children Andrew, Jason, Michael, Jennifer, Deejay (Leanne) and Brandy (Joe), his grandchildren Renee, Robert, Hailey, Kaden, Austin, Zoe, Brodie, Chasen, Paige, Jaxton, special friends James & Michelle, the entire Zimmer Clan and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of George’s life will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 1 pm in Fort Saskatchewan in the Normandy Room at 9964 93 Ave.
