Lois joined the Army to train as an LPN in 1956, where she met Edward Stasiuk. On August 22, 1957 Ed and Lois were married. Ed was sent Germany, where Lois joined him at the beginning of 1958. Their son, Edward (Bernie) was born in November of that year. Returning from Germany, Ed left the Army and joined the Navy. His last posting for the Navy was in Ottawa, ON. And in March of 1966, their daughter, Barbara, was born in Ottawa. Ed left the Navy after Barbara was born. Lois worked for 36 years as an LPN in homecare, nursing home facilities and hospitals (especially in geriatrics). Her last position was LPN on station 82 of the Aberhardt (geriatric ward) before it was slated to be closed for the LRT system. Lois was active with the church, on various committees/positions and with the LWML. Some of the groups she volunteered with included the Girl Guides of Canada, the Alberta Ballet and the Golden Pioneers in New Sarepta. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed her numerous houseplants and pets she had over the years, and also enjoyed travelling (whether it be to see family or a cruise).
Lois passed away peacefully at her home on August 16, at the age of 91.
Lois was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ed; brother, Calvin, sister-in-law Charlotte.
She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her memory her son, Bernie (Colleen), her daughter, Barbara; and her siblings, Wilfred (Doreen) Thies, Eleanor (Al) Hinde, Wilma (Ken) Fritz, Donald (Marg) Thies, Rosanna (Dennis) Loughlin, Raymond (Karen) Thies as well as her nephews and nieces and their children.
