Gertrude Pearl Pinnell, “Pearl”, “Mom”, “Grandma”, “Gigi”  passed away peacefully at the age of 85 at her apartment in Sherwood Park, Alberta on March 22, 2021.

Pearl was born January 28, 1936 in Westlock, Alberta, to Wilbert Earl and Edith MacLachlan. She spent her younger years in Whitelaw and Fairview, Alberta. After becoming mother to four children she moved south to Edmonton for a year and to Bon Accord for 5 years after that, finally to spend the bulk of her later years in Fort Saskatchewan. It was in Fort Saskatchewan that Pearl met and married the love of her life, George William Pinnell. They enjoyed many years together until George’s passing in 2009. George brought out the more adventurous side of Pearl; as they enjoyed travelling about in their motorhome and various campers. Pearl made many good friends in the Fort and spoke of them often.

She enjoyed the simple things in life as well. She read quite a lot and enjoyed crossword puzzles, making puzzles and doing various art projects which she lovingly shared with those around her. Lately, she spent many hours colouring pictures from adult colouring books. She wanted everyone in the family to receive one. Pearl was always excited when she got visits from the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, especially Livia, Adelyn and Ellie who would come to entertain her.

Being stricken with rheumatoid arthritis at the young age of 24, it was an inspiration to see how she still got on with life. She was small in stature, but strong and determined.

Pearl was predeceased by husband of 33 years, George Pinnell; grandson Blake Madden; sisters Marilyn Pratt; Marg Gorham; Eleanor Schlichter; brother Elmer MacLachlan; brother-in-law Bob Gorham and sister-in-law Carol MacLachlan

Her surviving siblings are brother Glen MacLachlan and sister Judy (Ken) Lakusta; Brothers-in-law Gary Schlichter, Wendell Pratt and sister-in-law Lillian MacLachlan.

Mourning her loss are, sons Rick (Tracy) Madden; Bill (Kathy) Madden; Pat Madden; and daughter Lori (Andre) Radtke, plus her stepchildren Dave (Karen) Pinnell and Terry (Clayton) Anderson.

Others in mourning are her grandchildren: Teri (Mike); Jodie (William); Chris (Dominique); Kelly (Duane); and Kwayd from her side of the family and Neil (Jessica); Carly (Jordan); Allyson (Mike); Vanessa (Joel); and Evan (Megan) from George’s side, along with 13 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind many special nieces, nephews and extended family. She dearly loved them all.

Private memorial services for Pearl will be delayed until later in April due to the ongoing pandemic. Her final resting place will be at the Fort Saskatchewan Cemetery.

Her family would like to extend a genuine thank you to all the caring and wonderful caregivers and medical personnel involved in her life. A special thank-you to the staff at Laurier House Strathcona and Dr. Cahill.

Pearl will be missed but remembered with love.

Dear Lori and Family....

I was honored to know Pearl at Southfort Bend Gardens, when she volunteered to help out in the office. She was funny, kind and always so helpful! I always enjoyed her company and assistance.
After she left Southfort, we kept in touch via phone calls and pub night visits with live entertainment and dancing! Loved my visits with her and wish I could have had more, but due to Covid; it was not possible. She will be missed but fondly remembered!
My sincere condolences to all the family....Blessings...Marge
