Bert, also known as Rob or Bob, was born in Winnipeg to George and Pat Kidd. The marriage ended shortly afterwards. Pat then met and married Pryce Alderson, who adopted Bert.
The family moved from Winnipeg, living briefly in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Edmonton, and then to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
Bert grew up in Fort Saskatchewan where he played hockey and enjoyed outdoor activities like fishing and camping. He also loved cars and working on them. Eventually, he became a heavy duty mechanic, working at his stepfather’s farm equipment dealership, Alderson Equipment.
In the Fort, Bert married Bev McSween and had their son, Allan.
After their marriage ended, Bert moved up to Lac La Biche where he changed his name to “Bert”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carving wood, and leatherwork.
Here is where he built the Alderson Log Cabin overlooking Golden Sands Bay. Allan came up many times and helped him with the cabin. Bert continued to be a mechanic up in Lac La Biche.
Bert welcomed Audrey Quintal into his life, along with her son Kelly and his wife Geraldine and children Joshua and Dana, who all used to go up and down stairs at the cabin with his granddaughter Kyra. They were together for many years until Audrey’s passing in 2007.
Bert had numerous friends in Lac La Biche. They all enjoyed working on cars together or hunting and fishing. He loved to share his fish with many others.
His memory is lovingly survived by his granddaughter, Kyra Chamberlain; grandson, Dayne Alderson; half-sisters, Laureen (Tony) Hollihan and Christene (Darcey) Zacharko; half-brother, Pryce (Anna) Alderson; nephews, Jackson (Kayla), Ben, Finley, Liam, Dana, Dylan, and Dirk; nieces, Erin and Summer; and great-nephew, Isaiah.
He was predeceased by his son, Allan Alderson; mother, Pat Alderson: stepfather, Pryce Alderson; as well as numerous relatives.
A “Potluck Gathering” will be held for Bert at the Owl River Hall on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Please bring some food and stories to share.
