Shirley was born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia in 1935 – adopted and lovingly raised by Jerome and Annie Graham. Working at Sobey’s warehouse at age 18, she met her husband Wally and they married in January, 1954 – just ahead of Wally joining the Air Force. Their first child, Pat, was born in Nova Scotia and a couple of years later they accepted their first overseas posting to Germany. Brian and Cheryl were both born in Germany. Another posting back to Canada – would be their first to Alberta – where Kim was born. In 1970, they chose Namao for their final posting back to Canada; and Fort Saskatchewan to be the community to purchase their first home and to raise their family. There, Shirley enjoyed many years working at Safeway. Working hard and saving well – Wally and Shirley – retired as young seniors and enjoyed many years travelling across Canada and to the U.S. in their motorhome. After Wally’s death in 2002, Shirley stayed closer to home. With her joy for people and keeping busy she took on a part time job working at the desk at the Legion. She enjoyed many years of greeting the people in addition to playing cards and bingo. Working on the executive of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary was also a highlight. Retiring (again) at the age of 80 was not an easy decision, but it did not slow her down. She continued to live on her own, enjoy cards and the company of her good friends up until her final weeks.
At Shirley’s request, a private family gathering will be held.
