Harley Wayne Thomas, 77 of Fort Smith passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at his home. He was born July, 18, 1944 in the Denton Community near Waldron, AR to Graden and Ida (Duncan) Thomas. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was an Army National Guard Veteran and retired from the Fort Smith Police Department where he served as the 2nd motorcycle officer and a traffic sergeant. He also retired as a Security Police Officer for the State of Arkansas at the 188th Air National Guard Base. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Ina Maye Thomas; sister Clara (Bob) Moore; brother, Joe (Jan) Thomas; brothers-in-law, Neil Goodman, Fred Nielsen, Jim Johnson, Buford Bishop and his mother-in-law, Barbara Bishop.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorcus (Bishop) Thomas; a son, Bill (Peggy) Thomas; daughter, Sheri (Darrell) Brown; one brother, Harold (Raye) Thomas; two sisters, Shirley Goodman and Anna Johnson; two sister-in-laws Shirley Nielsen and Billye Jean Thomas; and four grandchildren, Alison Thomas and Greg (Colleen Boyle) Thomas, Derek and Seth Brown.
A service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, November 27 at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith with visitation starting at noon just prior to the service. Interment following the service at Sehorn Cemetery near Waldron, AR. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
