

James Ralph Reed, Ed.D., 94 of Fort Smith, AR passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2010. He was born October 24, 1915 in Kent, Oklahoma to Lula and Ralph Givens McGinnis. Foster parents where his aunt Uarda and husband Steve Reed of Hugo, Oklahoma. Ralph was an emeritus professor of Business at Western State College of Colorado and in Colorado Who’s Who. He previously taught at Central State University of Oklahoma. He received his Masters and Doctors degree at the University of Oklahoma. He served in World War II in the United States Army Air Force as a Cryptographic Technician.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie Watson Reed; and her brother A.H. “Bud” Watson of Barling and nephew Rex Yancy of Van Buren. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. His hobbies were fishing and music. He loved and served the Lord as church soloist for many years. He and Margie gave musical programs for senior’s activity groups, they were known as the “Mellow Reeds”.
Private graveside services will be at the Fort Smith National Cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
The family will visit with friend from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 6th at the funeral home.
