

Dr. John Fraser Owens, 46, of Chesterfield, VA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 3:55PM, after a courageous battle with cancer. Fraser was born February 12, 1966 in Huntsville, AL, but grew up in Fort Smith. He loved to fish and sail. He also enjoyed football, basketball and church softball. A graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in veterinary medicine, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Dr. Owens was the area emergency coordinator with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Serving the country he loved as a captain in the United States Air Force, he spent time in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. He was a faithful member of Parkway Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. Fraser was a wonderful son with a very kind heart, a father who loved his children without measure and an extremely devoted husband.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; his two sons, John Zachary and Grady Adair; his two daughters, April Ann and Jennifer Dylynn; his mother, Judy Fraser Owens; his father, Thomas Harold Owens; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. John A. Fraser; a brother, Barry Thomas Owens and wife Jana; a nephew, Henry Owens; aunts Adair Smith and Kay Howard and many cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Roebuck Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Fort Smith Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:00PM. The family will greet, and visit with friends, following the service in the narthex at First United Methodist Church, Fort Smith. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
