Josie Jean Sargent, 85, of Roland, Oklahoma passed peacefully into Heaven December 9, 2017 in Fort Smith. She was born June 14, 1932, in Figure Five, Arkansas, to the late Virgil and Abbie Rosengart Benoit. Josie retired from the Roland School District as a cafeteria cook and was a member of Trinity United Methodist in Muldrow. She was very active with the United Methodist Women, baking for many monthly birthday parties at Roland Nursing Home and loved to participate in the exercise classes at her church. Josie’s real love was traveling with her daughter, Audra. She was the widow of Stewart D. Sargent. She was also preceded in death by 1 brother and 3 sisters, the most recent being her beloved sister, Kathleen.
She is survived by her daughters, Rose Guinn and her husband Rick of Fort Smith, Laura Strange and her husband Leo of Muldrow and Audra Sargent of the home; five grandchildren, Amy Gipson, Melissa Jo and Amanda Strange, Leo Strange Jr and his wife Tonya and Gary Strange and his wife Melissa; four great grandchildren, Austin, Christopher, Kylee and Ashlynn, as well as two great great grandchildren, Aurora and Jacks.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Muldrow, with burial to follow at Roland City Cemetery. Viewing will be from 8:00am till 4:00pm Monday at Edwards Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm Monday, December 11, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
