

Margaret (Oma) Wittmann Burns, 86, of Fort Smith, died March 18, 2013 in Fort Smith. She was born June 22, 1926 in Hiltpoltstein, Germany to Johann Georg and Kunigunda Deuerlein Wittmann. Margaret met her husband of 55 years, U.S. Army Master Sergeant, David Myron Burns from Struthers, Ohio. When David returned to the United States they continued to communicate by mail, until she came to the United States to marry him on November 18, 1952. Margaret adjusted well in learning the language, and quickly became an American Citizen, and devoted military wife. She accompanied David to Fort Sill, OK., Boston, Massachusetts, Fort Riley, Kansas, Japan, and Germany. She had various jobs throughout her lifetime, but she loved children and babysitting the most. She loved working in her yard for hours on end, sewing for her grandchildren, and crocheting for her friends and family. In addition to her busy schedule of doing for family and friends she was a former employee of Jerry Neel’s Bar-B-Q, and attended Faith Assembly of God Church for many years.
She is survived by one daughter, Dian and husband Larry Brisco of Fort Smith; one son, Werner Wittmann and wife Renate of Rehau, Germany; four grandchildren, Ivonne and husband Matthias Gottfried, Alexander and wife Melanie Wittmann, Megan Brisco and Stefanie & husband Charles Scheffe; great grandchildren; Max & Sophie Wittmann, Korbinian Gottfried, and Addisyn Scheffe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years David Myron Burns, one sister, Christina Meister, and one brother, Konrad Wittmann.
Funeral service will be Friday, March 22, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5-7 PM
