

Michael Leonard Peterson, 62, of Fort Smith, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023. Mike was born December 14, 1960 in Poplar Bluff, MO to Merrill “Pete” Peterson and Mary Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Peterson, and brother in law Scott Koch. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Suzanne, son Christopher (Lindsey) grandson Roman, brothers Robert and Eric, father and mother in law Gilbert and Doris Koch, nephews Garren (Allison), Grant, John (April), and Robert Peterson. Nieces Emily (Zach) McNally, Tori (Dakota) Highley and numerous great nieces and nephews. Mike attended Northside High School where he was a member of the Grizzly Football Team. After graduating in 1979, Mike went on to Arkansas Tech University where he was a student coach for the football team. He graduated from Tech with a degree in Education. Mike spent many years in sales in the transportation industry but found his true calling working at Cook Elementary in Physical Education. He enjoyed interacting with the students and staff there until his retirement earlier this year. Mike, affectionately known as “Pete” to friends, was an avid Arkansas Razorback and St. Louis Cardinals fan. His quick wit and dry sense of humor were well known and he was famous for one-liners, always delivered at the right time. The funeral for Mike will be held on Thursday October 19th at 11am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Honorary pall bearers are Cooper McCraney, Greg Goodner, John Shields, Roger Taylor and Mark Shaver. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family ask for donations to be made to Immaculate Conception Church, Immaculate Conception School or Trinity Middle School all located in Fort Smith.
