Shelley Leigh Martin Stringer of Clarksville, TN, passed from this life on July 29, 2015 at the age of 49. Shelley was born to parents Donna Kaye Shields and Harry Lee Byrum on July 17, 1966, in Fort Smith, AR. She spent her childhood in the Fort Smith area and graduated for Northside High School in 1984.
Shelley was known to everyone as an extremely loving and caring person who made friends with everyone she met. She became a US Army wife and with the knowledge and experience she acquired from that life, she helped many of our service members and families adjust to military life by providing information, advice, a friendly smile and a good ear.
Shelley was also a lifelong lover of animals. She studied Veterinary Medicine at Penn Foster Education, and put her whole heart into volunteering at the Fort Sill Stray Facility/Fort Sill Vet Clinic until her family’s most recent assignment to Fort Campbell, KY.
Shelley is survived by her husband, Gerald G. Stringer of Clarksville, TN; her son, Cody Adams and wife Rossana of Lakewood, WA; her daughter, Brandi K Stringer of Lawton, OK; her dad, Darrell M Hayes and wife, Jean of Barling, AR; brothers, Stuart Doing of Dallas, TX, Darrell M Hayes of Mountainburg, AR, Rick Hayes of New Richmond, WI; sisters, Sarah M Hayes of Cedar Park, TX and Kenya Wilhite of Branson, MO; sister-n-law, Traci Hayes of Lavaca, AR; one granddaughter, Aubrey, of Washington State; and lots of nieces and nephew as well as other family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Donna Kaye (Shields) Hayes; adoptive father, Buddy Martin as well as her grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Memorial service will be 12:00 Noon Thursday at the Pavilion at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with burial to follow under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
Being that Shelley was so dedicated to animals, she would have preferred donations to your local animal shelter in lieu of flowers to the family.
