

Thomas H. Monroe died Sunday, February 6, 2011. Tom was born on August 24, 1927 to Armelia Duffy Monroe and Miles Emmet Monroe in Fort Smith, AR. Tom served in the United States Navy during WWII as a petty officer. After his military term he worked as a glass cutter for Harding Glass for 26 years until the company closed. Tom retired from the Southwest Times Record newspaper as a maintenance foreman.
Tom was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He and his family enjoyed many years of camping and boating at many area lakes and streams.
Tom is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Helen Overbey Monroe; a son, Thomas Harry Monroe, Jr.; three daughters, Deborah Childers and husband Kenneth, Vickie Jordan and husband Michael and Pamela Beyer. He is survived by five granddaughters and eight great grandchildren.
Tom will be buried at the National Cemetery. There will not be a funeral, but rather a private graveside service for immediate family members only. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the Arkansas chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 320 North Greenwood Avenue, Fort Smith, AR 72901.
