William Harold Roddy

William Harold Roddy a longtime resident of Fort Smith, AR, age 85, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Bill was born in Greenville, SC on August 6, 1936, the son of the late William Grayson and Edith Compton Roddy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley V. Roddy; son, Wayne B. Roddy; granddaughter, Ruth A. Olson; first wife of 14 years, Carol Blackburn Roddy; his in-laws, Martine & Elizabeth Bercher and brother-in-law, Martine Bercher Jr. all of Ft. Smith.

Bill enjoyed playing golf in the Men's League at Deer Trails Golf Course where he was fondly called "Pops" by his fellow golfers, he also enjoyed watching sports, and bringing joy to the community alongside his wife as Santa and Mrs. Claus.

However, his deepest love was his role as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bill relocated to Shelby, NC in 2017.

Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean Ann Bercher Roddy; his children, Cheryl Olson (Harlan) of St. Peter MN, Elizabeth Milbrett (Randy), Mankato, MN, Jan Blanton (Nathan) of Shelby, NC, and Bryan Roddy (Valerie) of Baja California, Mexico; brother, Tracy C. Roddy (Inez) of Travelers Rest, SC; 11 loving grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces & nephews. In Ft. Smith Bill is survived by sisters-in-law, Bettye Bercher Franz (Edward) and Carole Bercher.

A memorial mass will be held 10 AM, March 12, 2022 at St Boniface Catholic Church with burial immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery by Edwards Funeral Home.
