

Alan Charles Lewis, 76, died suddenly on January 12, 2026. He was born on July 17, 1949, to Alan and Marian (Healy) Lewis in Detroit MI. Alan was the oldest of 7 boys and 1 girl. At the age of 7, Alan was given a model Corvette for Christmas which began his love of Corvettes and sparked interest in a career in automotive engineering.
Alan loved his country and was very Patriotic. In 1970, he left college to enlist in the Army serving in Korea in Military Intelligence. Returning home from Korea, Alan finished his Bachelor of Science in Engineering at the University of Northern Illinois. He completed his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Toledo. Alan was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ivy Tech Community College with a post-graduate certificate in Computer Information Systems. Alan valued learning and expanding his knowledge base to keep up with the advancing technology in business and the automotive industry.
Alan began working at Clevite Elastomers, now Tenneco Automotive in Napoleon Ohio as a shift supervisor advancing in his career to Certified Manager of Quality Assurance. Known as ‘Al’ by his co-workers, he worked with Clevite plants in Angola, IN and Milan, OH. In 1989, Al transferred to Milan, OH as the Manager of Production and Quality Assurance. In 1998, Al accepted a position at Trelleborg in Peru, IN as Quality Manager, moving to Fort Wayne. Al finished his career at Tenneco Automotive as a Quality Assurance Consultant. As a consultant, Al traveled to across many states, Europe and Mexico building relationships with automotive suppliers, committed to ensuring quality. Al retired from Tenneco Automotive in 2024.
While living in Grand Rapids, OH, Alan was elected to the Grand Rapids Town Council also serving on the Grand Rapids Pool Board for many years. Throughout his lifetime, Alan owned several Corvettes with his favorite being his 2019 Torch Red. Alan and his wife, Charmaine, enjoyed road trips in those Corvette along with a great group of friends, who also owned Corvettes. He and Charmaine enjoyed traveling, taking several Caribbean cruises with friends. He was an avid collector of die cast Corvettes, classic cars and trucks. He collected antique clocks learning how to restore, repair and maintain the mechanisms. He loved watching Westerns and could quote dialogue from old John Wayne movies. Alan enjoyed reading spy and espionage novels and listening to music from the 60’s. His favorite treat was a Bavarian cream donut.
Alan was fortunate to be part of a large extended family that he loved very much. Alan met his wife of 44 years on a blind date in 1976 and they were married May 23, 1981. Alan is survived by his wife, Charmaine, three daughters, Alexa (Mike) Lambright, Kelly Henry, and Denise Lewis; five granddaughters, Aleah (Gabe) Ellis, Audrey (Andrew) Schmidt, Arlie Lambright, Madeline Henry and Katherine Henry and three great-grandchildren. Alan is survived by Aunt Carole (Lou) Lattanzio, New Jersey; brothers Neil (Jane) and Mark (Terri), Illinois; Stephen (Judy) and William (Gail), Ohio and Donald (Michelle), Mississippi along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Alan was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marianne Welker and brother, Kevin Lewis.
Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 pm Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN. 46825.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior.
Committal and Burial will be conducted at 3:00 pm Wednesday, January 212, 2026 at Hockman Cemetery, McClure Ohio.
