

Arlene was born on February 12, 1949, to Rose and Fred Barron in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Arlene graduated from Baldwin High School in 1967. She went on to study at The University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a Master’s in Library and Information Science Major medical/computer Librarian. After graduation, she was trained at the National Library of Medicine in Maryland. She attended FIU and OSU for a Teacher’s Certification in Special Ed. She worked at The University of Miami and The University of Georgia as a Librarian.
Arlene married Bob Volz in 1977, going on to have two children, Steven and Charlene.
Arlene was an accomplished teacher was honored and recognized as Reading Teacher of the year for Miami-Dade County Public Schools in 1989. Arlene won BRS on-line retrieval and presented paper in Chicago in 1984. She also presented paper at MLA in New York in 1985. Arlene enjoyed many hobbies and interests such as reading, gardening, listening to her favorite music, participating in the handbell choir at church and spending time with her family. Arlene loved to draw and was a talented artist. In her youth she won a scholarship for Carnegie lessons.
Arlene was preceded in death by her spouse, Thomas Snider, and her parents, Fred (Rose) Barron and former husband Robert Volz. She is survived by her sisters, Jacque Johnston, Nancy (Rudolph) Krutar; and children Steven (Kristeen) Volz and Charlene (Matt) Kotraba; as well as grandchildren Makayla, James, Milena, Samantha, Otto, and Carl.
The family requests that donations be made to JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, in lieu of flowers. There will be a Celebration of Life in the near future.
