Obituary of Betty L. Schulz
Betty L. Schulz, 92, of Leo and formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday October 24, 2020. Born August 20, 1928 in New Bremen, NY, she was the youngest daughter of the late Silas and Mary Amanda (Virkler) Virkler. She graduated from Beaver River Central School and worked as a secretary for the Lewis County NY Extension Office. She married Leon M. Schulz on November 13, 1954 and they moved to Fort Wayne. She went to work as the secretary to the Director of Engineering at the International Harvester Engineering Center. She took time off to raise their two children, then went back to work as a secretary for several CPA’s in Fort Wayne after the sudden death of her husband in 1974 until retiring. She was a softball player in her younger years and an avid lifelong bowler, bowling until late in life and was the longtime secretary of the Strikettes bowling league. She enjoyed her family and taking care of her yard. She is survived by her children, Timothy (Lori) Schulz and Holly (Gregg) Knott, Grandsons, Ryan (Aimee) Penn, Zachary Schulz, Gaven Schulz, and step grandson Adam Knott, Great grandchildren, Caine Penn, Vincent Penn, Elizabeth Penn, Sophia Penn, Gabriel Penn, Michael Penn, Kylie Knott, and Abram Knott, Brother Andrew (Maxine) Virkler, Sisters in law Eleanor Virkler, Florence Storms, and Louise Schulz, Brothers in law Niles Schulz, and Grant Schulz., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Gordon Virkler, Raymond Virkler, and Frank Virkler, sisters Mary Ramseyer, Gertrude Virkler, Eleanor Virkler, and Esther Rauhe, and three siblings at birth. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery in rural Bluffton, IN. Private service with Jeff Waible clergy from the church officiating.
