DON EDWIN CHILDS, 87, of Columbia City, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015, at his home. Born in Colling, Mich., Don served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1949. Later, he was a self employed contractor for 34 years, retiring in 1993. He was a life member of American Legion Post 241 and V.F.W. 10006 and a member of Peace Lutheran Church for 55 years and then Zion Lutheran Church in Columbia City. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Jennie May Childs of Columbia City; son, Jeffrey (Virginia) Childs of Columbia City; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Phil Rittner officiating. Calling also from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Columbia City.
