Elizabeth Jane Christy (Liz), born March 2, 1956, passed away surrounded by love at home on Friday, September 26, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer.
Liz spent the majority of her life in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she attended Central Catholic High School and graduated from Bishop Luers High School in 1974. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in a subject she loved, history, from the University of Saint Francis. She met and married Gregory Windom and helped raise two successful children: her stepson, Reverend Gregory T. Manning and later their daughter, Amelia Windom who went on to receive her Masters in Acting from The Yale School of Drama. After attending Brown Mackie College, she continued her work in the service industry, moving from bartending and serving tables to caring for patients, young and old as a COTA, and eventually as a customer service associate at Phil’s One Stop. Over these years she selflessly and vivaciously touched the lives of many and was adored by those who had the honor of knowing her.
Liz was a deeply loving mother, wonderful big sister and friend, impossibly strong, and could always be counted on to tell it like it is. She had a passion for her pet cats, archeology, Egyptology and especially flamingos. She was fiercely independent, had a quick wit, a wicked sense of humor, and she will be deeply missed for years to come.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Amelia Windom; stepson, Rev. Gregory T. Manning; siblings, Kevin Christy, Virginia Haunfelder, and Theresa Bilger; and niece and nephews, Sean Christy, RN, Dr. Mary Christy and Dr. Will Haunfelder. She is also survived by her former husband, Gregory Windom; and Gregory’s siblings, Lawanda Windom and Glen Windom.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lowell Christy and Dr. Virginia Christy; and dear friends who became family, Stephanie L. Sexton Moore and Joyce A. Hauser.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone for your prayers, friends who came by to wish Liz well in her last months, her family who stepped in to help, and the staff at Stillwater Hospice, who were a great help to Liz and Amelia as they navigated a difficult time. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1101 Lafayette Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46802.
