

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Elmer John Diller. He was born on October 14, 1936, to the late Lawrence and Freda (née. Bracht) Diller in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He passed from this life on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the age of 89. John was known for his compassionate, devoted, generous, selfless, loyal, hard-working, and thoughtful nature.
John met Janice Yvonne Hedges at the now West State Plaza, and they were later united in marriage on March 29, 1987.
He cherished his time fishing on the lake from his boat with family and friends. As a dedicated professional, John was the owner of Diller's Painting for over 20 years until his retirement in 1997 and also worked for 14 years with General Electric as a machine operator.
As a long-time member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, John was instrumental in painting the new annex addition to the church, demonstrating his commitment to his community.
He was affectionately known by many as "John," his grandchildren lovingly called him "Papa John" or "Grandpa" and nieces & nephews, "Uncle Johnny." He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind to continue his legacy and cherished memories to his beloved wife Jan of 38 years; his son, Kelvin (Jewel) Diller; daughter, Annette Diller; stepsons, Kevin "Dean" Hedges and Troy (Annie) Hedges; stepdaughter, Stacey (Jimmy) Moore; brothers, Louis (Carolyn) Diller and Al (Sandy) Diller; daughter-in-law, Baana Diller; sister-in-law, Susan "Sue" Diller; brother-in-law, Howard Davis; 16 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; one great-great-grandchild also on the way; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
John was also preceded in death by his son, Terry Diller; stepdaughter-in-law, Melissa Hedges; two grandchildren, Catrina Bontrager and Fred "Bubby" Sturdivant; six great-grandchildren, Fred "Lil Fred" Sturdivant, Brooks Allen Frey, Liam Isaac Frey, Megan Savanna Maxwell, Julia Mae Gage, and Bailey Elaine Frey; a sister, Donna Davis; brothers, Don and his wife Janet Diller, Jack Diller, James Diller, Lawrence Diller, Jr., and Eugene Diller.
His legacy of love and dedication will be cherished by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later time in the Spring.
