Gary Wayne Chunn

Gary Wayne Chunn, 73, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday May 10 at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The oldest son of Montie Elmore Chunn, Jr. and Mary Ellen (Black) Chunn, he was born on November 3, 1948 in Pulaski, TN. He had lived in Ft. Wayne since the early 1960’s. Gary graduated from Central High School in Ft. Wayne. He worked as a house painter and restaurant manager before he joined the Indiana Institute of Technology family. He enjoyed interacting with students, faculty and co-workers. Gary was employed for 37 years as a Maintenance Technician, retiring in 2016. He continued his education with classes at IIT over the years. Personal activities that he enjoyed the most were Judo and reading. He had a life-long quest for knowledge. He was predeceased by both parents, his step-father Tommy Hutcherson, wife Jennifer, and brother Dale Chunn. His survivors include loving partner Christina Dougal, sisters Cora (Art) Shaffer of Delta, OH and Nancy (Kevin) Booker of Williamsport, TN, brother Ed “Archie” (Jane) Chunn of Summertown, TN, step-sons Mike Casper and Bill Casper, step-grandson Caleb Casper Turner, a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, former in-laws, and his “judo buddies”. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Lutheran Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Gary. We would also like to extend thanks to the staff at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Home for their assistance. Private services were held with the immediate family. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
