

GEORGE T. MANGOS, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at home surrounded by family. Born in 1930 in Poliker asos, Greece, he was the youngest of four boys and a son of Thoma and Maria Mangos. He immigrated to the United States in 1951 and settled in Fort Wayne. One of his favorite stories to tell, was that he "came to this country with only five dollars in his pocket." George was truly the personification of the American Dream, with an unparalleled work ethic. He spent 14 years at Perfection Biscuit (Sunbeam) and 26 years at Zollner Piston, retiring in 1993. George was a loving husband, father, Dedo and uncle. He enjoyed family, friends, entertaining, being outside, playing cards with friends and doing puzzles with his grandkids. He always had a sunny disposition and his signature chuckle could put a smile on anyone's face. He was a life-long member of St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church. He married his loving and devoted wife, Marianthi, in 1958 and they spent 59 wonderful years together. He was the father of two daughters, Rose (Kevan) Davis and Tina (Daryl) Evans; grandfather of four grandchildren, Christina (Ozzie) Mitson, Andrew (Samantha) Evans, Nathan Davis, and Zachary Davis; great-grandfather of Elena Marianthi Mitson and Christopher George Mitson; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thoma and Maria Mangos; brothers, Argirios, Athanasios and Christos; and nephew, Thoma Mangos. Service is 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church, 3535 Crescent Ave., with calling one hour prior. Father Andrew Jarmus officiating. Calling also from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne (IN 46825). Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church.
