

George Raymond Springer, 85, of Harlan, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home. Born June 11, 1936 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Walter F.G. and Mary E. Springer. George proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 - 1963 and was a member of the American Legion Post 47. In his younger years, George was a proofreader at Our Sunday Visitor Publishing in Huntington, Ind. He later retired from Tri-County Eggs and after retirement was employed with Ryder for over 10 years. A sports fanatic, he enjoyed watching golf, basketball, and football and was fond of I.U. and Purdue. Surviving are his fiancée of 28 years, Ruth Thimlar of Harlan, Ind.; daughter, Jill (Ross) Lamar of Fort Wayne; son, Mitchell (Corby) Springer of West Lafayette, Ind.; four grandchildren, Craig McIntyre, Stephenie (Andrew) Ley, Matthew Ryan Springer, and Christopher Michael (Catherine) Springer; three great-grandchildren; sister, Irene (Kelvin) Thain of Roanoke, Ind.; and brother, Walter Springer of Springfield, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley McIntyre; sisters, Ruby and Dot; brothers, Frank and Russell; and sister-in-law, Mary Springer.
